What is a Revenue Officer?
What is a revenue officer? This is when you owe the IRS, and the IRS has decided to get tough with you. The first step is likely a lien on your property. A levy will follow so the IRS can take your money or your house. This is serious business.
What are the revenue officers like?
Do they have specific personalities? What do you need to know about them? First of all, the revenue officer is there to collect money for the IRS by any means possible. They may make false promises on the phone to get you to disclose information. They may not be truthful to you either. They may be very aggressive too and demand monies from you. In one case a client was assessed a penalty of over $100,000 and the revenue officer told the client to pay up or else. We are working to get a refund, but it takes time.
The revenue officer is not your friend!
You should not talk to them. Tell them you will be getting representation or if you have representation tell them to call your representative not you! The revenue officer will try to break the bond between you and your representative to further the IRS interests. Please be careful here!
We wanted to give you some insight into the revenue officer. They are simply very powerful collection agents. They can really hurt you financially. The best bet is to pay your taxes (especially your payroll taxes) on time so you do not ever have to deal with them,
